Notice To Debit Cardholders:
First Federal has been made aware by VISA that one of their card payment processors, Heartland Payment Systems, has experienced a security breach which potentially affects many debit and credit cards across the nation. Debit card account numbers and expiration dates may have been compromised but cardholder Social Security Numbers, PINs, telephone numbers and addresses were not involved in the breach. Heartland Payment Systems is one of the largest debit/credit payment processing companies in the world serving over 250,000 merchants. This was a breach of a merchant’s card processor database. Please be assured that this breach is in no way attributed to First Federal Savings Bank and that Heartland is not a vendor of or associated with First Federal, however they do process payment transactions for many of the merchants you make purchases from on a daily basis. For the most recent information on this breach, and a more detailed explanation of what occurred you can visit http://www.2008breach.com/.
Since fraudulent transactions have been reported on accounts included in this processor breach, in some cases, quick action on First Federal’s part in blocking accounts without prior card holder notification may be necessary. In addition to our internal monitoring, you should always monitor activity on your accounts through your statements, telephone banking, or our online banking system to ensure unusual activity is not occurring, and be sure to alert us as soon as possible if you notice any unauthorized transactions. If you have any questions regarding the status of your debit card, or to report any unusual activity, please call us at 1-877-577-3372.
